St Patrick’s Day Shamrock Shake

Shamrock Shake Main Grey

March 17th is, of course, St Patrick’s Day and not content with just downing a pint of Guinness in the local pub, whilst donning a green sweater, Americans celebrate the day in style. Turning entire rivers green and smothering every city in a green haze of costumed party goers and procession floats, the day does not pass by unnoticed!

Even Ronald McDonald takes part in the fun by turning his milkshake green, with the release of his Shamrock Shake each March. It’s funny how the world can be so globalised, yet some of the very best things in life, like Almond Rocca, See’s Candy and Salt Water Taffy never make it across the Atlantic to the Brits. The Shamrock Shake is a typical example of this travesty, which is ironic considering it’s made in honour of a Saint from our fair isles.

Shamrock Shake Main StraightThe Shamrock Shake is a bright green, smooth and creamy mint flavoured milkshake – O-Milkshake-G, it’s SO GOOD! It’s only sold in March, but unfortunately my cravings are not limited to the same time frame, so I decided to imitate the recipe.

This recipe is easy-peasey to make, just click to keep reading and watch the video recipe…

Simply blend all of the ingredients in a blender until it’s smooth. Serve in a glass with a straw and top with a mountain of whipped cream. For a totally authentic Shamrock Shake you should also add a glacé cherry to the top, but I REALLY don’t like glacé cherries – yuk yuk yuk – so left this off of my shake. You could even grate some chocolate over the top, but I was both lazy and greedy today so gulped it down as is.

For this Shamrock Shake Recipe I used the following equipment:
