My Kitchen Intervention…

Do you freak out when it’s your turn to host dinner? Are you stuck in a dinner rut, cooking the same meals in ever-decreasing circles? Do you wish you could conjure up healthy, creative foods that your children will actually WANT to eat?

LET ME HELP YOU. I know exactly how you feel.

Having worked in the cookware industry for over a decade, I have had access to the very best products, people and resources in the foodie world. As a result I am a true domestic goddess and an absolute whizz in the kitchen, perfecting every meal with Tinkerbelle-like sparkle, right? WRONG!

There were no fluffy cloud-like soufflés coming out of my oven, just clouds of thick black smoke. And when it came to home-cooked meals – well the microwave IS in my HOME isn’t it?

Well microwave no more! I have undergone ‘kitchen intervention’ and I’d love it if you’d join me.

You see, over a year ago I was whisked off my feet by my magical “Peter Pan” (forgive the tenuous link to my earlier Tinkerbelle reference) who took me from my Victorian semi in an English market town, to his bustling home-city of Seattle on the west coast of America. For the first time in my life I didn’t have a job, and so for the first time in my life I had no excuse not to serve up an edible meal at the end of my un-busy day. Profanity profanity profanity! Yes it was finally time to learn how to cook.

However, fear was soon abandoned and in its place stood excitement, passion and inspiration. I learnt that the oven was not an appliance put on this earth purely to test me, my blender was embraced as more than just a smoothie maker and my bakeware was actually used for baking, instead of just warming things up – imagine that! The Seattle based ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ love story was actually happening to me, just in the kitchen and not in the “naughty room”.

The variety of food in Seattle is truly amazing. Mexican, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Italian, Fusion, Seafood, Steaks, BBQ, as well as the typical American pancakes, waffle houses, burger joints and fried chicken stores – phew! Not to mention the renowned Pike Place market, one of the country’s oldest farmers markets (and home of the infamous flying fish stall!) that offers a multi-sensory experience of sights, sounds, tastes and aromas.

Hang your head in shame no more…

This blog will show you just how easy it is to create delicious visually-appealing food that your friends and family will love to eat. Using both my British and American influences as inspiration (hence the name of the blog), I will share deliciously easy and creative recipes that would even keep Mr Grey at the dining room table.

So…is your oven ready to be turned on? Can your kitchen stand the heat? Are you left wanting more?

Awesome!
