“I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas”…
…and it seems that dream is all I can do. Typically, the moment we arrive in the UK Facebook is run amok with photos of snowy white landscapes from back home in Seattle – yes, it snowed!
The snow looks so Christmassy and romantic, especially compared to the cold, wet, rainy days we are enduring here in Newbury. But today is a “free” day with no lunches, coffees, or dinners planned, so we have decided to go into hibernation mode for the day.
Not to be outdone by the evil weatherman, I too will enjoy a White Christmas in the guise of this delicious White Christmas Candy Cane Milkshake. Who doesn’t enjoy a thick, smooth and creamy milkshake? Especially when curled up in front of a log fire watching Christmas movies on TV – OK, in front of a gas fire in my case, but that doesn’t sound half as romantic does it?
This milkshake tastes especially festive with zingy peppermint and Christmas candy canes and is perfect for enjoying with warm home-baked gingerbread cookies – I made my cookies using the Tovolo Straw Cookie Cutter Set.
To get started on your White Christmas Milkshake, crush two of the peppermint candy canes into small pieces. I do this by sealing them in a Ziploc® bag, covering with a towel and bashing them with a rolling pin or small hammer. Be sure to set a handful of the crushed candy aside for sprinkling over the top of your shakes. If you’d also like to decorate the rim of your glass with the crushed candy, simply wet the rim of the glass and dip it into the crushed candy canes – yes it’s that easy!
To make the milkshake, simply throw the chocolate chips, milk, peppermint extract, ice cream and the crushed candy canes into a blender and blend until thick and creamy. As this is a White Christmas Milkshake, I use white chocolate chips, but you can easily swap these out for milk or dark chocolate.
Divide the mixture into two tall glasses and top with a squirt of whipped cream and a magical sprinkle of crushed candy cane. I also like to hang a candy cane over the lip of each glass – so pretty!
